My name is Don and I am a local painter in Springfield Lakes, Queensland near Brisbane. This exhibition features a selection of paintings I have done. My inspiration is taken from various subjects from around the world. I have been fortunate to travel to may countries of the world taking photos of interesting subjects that appealed to me in order to work on them once back in my studio.
For 25 years of my life I lived in the Blue Mountains of NSW where the scope of art is vast due to the amount of artistic people in the area. My family and I moved to Springfield Lakes in Queensland from the Blue Mountains in NSW in 2003. We have now settled in the area and in particular I have been pleasantly surprised to find so much artistic talent in the area.
My passion for art started very early in my life when I was in primary school in Mosman, a northern suburb of Sydney where I grew up. I still have recollections as a little boy standing out in front of the class with my pastel renditions of whatever subject was being taught at the time.
I have a passion for painting landscapes and especially love painting rocks in their many various forms. I have developed my own way of building up the rock areas of my paintings. I sculpture with a small art chisel giving them realistic intricate shapes. This method gives a nice grainy texture to the rocks before adding the watercolour and letting the paint run through their crevices.
I have held numerous successful exhibitions in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Currently, I am Coordinator for the Springfield Lakes Arts Group which is formed by a very enthusiastic group of people of all ages from the community.
